Who am i?
I was supposed to write a story. Any story. After all this is the last day of the Afrobloggers WinterABC – A digital storytelling festival. But you see, I am on a journey of embracing my story and what better way to do so by writing my story. Now now, do not expect me to spew all the details of who I am and all the tears I cried coz of that other boy. No, that is not the kind of story happening today.
Today, it is just me finally answering the question that has plagued me for long. You see, long long time ago, I was laying in bed in the middle of the night and I felt an impression on my soul. I believe it was God. He asked me one question and one question only,”Who are you?” I must say that I was irritated by that question. I was in the midst of a deep and dark depression and I needed answers so for him to come and ask a question. I was like who is fooling who here? But you see, that led me on a journey.
A journey that has spanned many of years and days, taking me through the deepest valleys and the highest mountains throwing me in disarray, leaving me with more questions than answers.
“The hardest question we have to ask ourselves in this life is, “Who am I?” Ideally, we answer it for ourselves, but be warned that others will strive to do it for you- so don’t let them.”

The search for me has been elusive. Some times, I felt like I will never find the answer to the question and just when I felt I had reached the end, a glimmer of light shone in the darkness. What I was searching for was not outside, across the mountains and valleys. No ,it was not. What I was searching for was within me. I needed to just look within myself and embrace my story- accept and own it. I am no longer scared to be seen.
You know what the answer was-
I am Patricia Opio Sina Ayo. I am me!
I am me in all my flaws- and believe me, they are many. I am me in all my strengths. I am me when the words want to cut me down. I am me when the hands hold me up. I am me when I can not take a step forward. I am me when the strength to move on returns.
But the real question is “Whose am I?”
In all this, I am a child of the most High God, adored completely by Him, created for a purpose.,shaped to make a difference.
