Lights Camera Action

I do not consider myself a tomboy. If anything, I am a girly girl but the one thing I never bothered to venture in is makeup. If my eyebrows were shaped and my lips moist with a bit of color,I am all good. That is about all the Lights, Camera, Action I need.

I think it is also to do with the fact that my skin is sensitive so anything I just put on it, makes it break out so makeup was a no no. But this year, I decided that I wanted a face beat and photoshoot. As I was still thinking more about it, a friend, an amazing makeup artist. She, a social worker left the NGO world to pursue her passion. Yes, I am going to tell you more about her story in the coming blog posts but today we are talking about her passion-Makeup.

Anyway, Yvette gets on a WhatsApp group that we are on and announces that she is doing a photoshoot for her makeup studio and needs three volunteers. You can be sure that I jumped onto her inbox offering my services and that is how I got to have my very first makeup and photoshoot day.

There has been much debate on it however most people seem to be agreeing that makeup dates back to almost 7000 years and was present in every society. What was interesting to note was that according to Wikipedia, the evidence for this comes in the form of utilised red mineral pigments (red ochre) including crayons associated with the emergence of Homo sapiens in Africa. Even the bible talks about it where in the Old Testament—2 Kings 9:30 where Jezebel painted her eyelids—approximately 840 BC—and the book of Esther describes various beauty treatments as well. Christians, make-up is ok. Are you seeing? Haha!!

Anyway back to the present, so I go over to Yvette’s makeup studio. For some reason, I was excited but nervous at the same time. Yvette, the gracious host that she is even made me a scrumptious breakfast. Thank you Yvette. Soon the other ladies joined us and the makeup artist just like a conductor pulled out her wand and began conducting a masterpiece. It took two hours. Ladies, how in the world do you do this everyday? Like how??? Oh my goodness, I was exhausted by the end of the face beat and we still had the photo shoot

We were then off to the photo studio and another creative with his magic wand aka camera did his thing. Yvette then gave us model tips- did you know that to get the sultry look,you put your chin down and look down and ever so slowly lift just your eyes to look at the camera guy? I was in shock but you guys it worked. It was fun. It was exhausting but I had a time of my life. I had my first makeup and photoshoot day. Cheers to new adventures. I wonder what I will do next. Tattoo,anyone?
