Fool Me Once

It was a leisurely moment. After finishing up my work, I pulled out my phone and decided to go through my Twitter. I had been on Twitter for a while but I was never really drawn to it like I was that season. Reading the microblogs was relaxing and there were quite some hilarious tweeps out there.

So as I was going through, I came across a call for an online blogging class by @ugbloc, the Ugandan blogging community. Uganda Bloggers Community is a shared initiative of bloggers in Uganda to improve the blogging and overall social media sphere in the country.

thought about applying for this but then later changed my mind, thinking that this was not the time. I would do it later when I had some idea of how to blog. I mean I was here writing blog posts but I hadn’t even grasped how to launch a blog. No, I told myself, not now! Maybe sometime in the future when I fully understand it. Oohhh, fool me once!!!

Imagine my shock, the next couple of days when I go back on Twitter and they are tweeting about the online class and what they are learning and I thought, “Girl! You were foolish!! Why did you not apply?” I was so angry with myself. How could I not have seen this as an amazing opportunity?

I just started tweeting back and asking anyone if there was still time to redeem myself, if I could still join the class even if I was late. The more they tweeted, the more I berated myself because I was at fault. I had let a great opportunity slip through my hands just like that, with my eyes wide open. It was not a situation of letting go of good for great as I had in a previous post. Read here

So imagine my utmost joy when they tweeted back that I could still join though I would have to pay a late fee. I just paid the fee without thinking too much about it though they were kind enough to return it. It was a lesson -when an opportunity knocks on the door, fling the door wide open and welcome it in as quickly. If it knocks the second time, be sure it won’t be quite as easy as it would have been the first time and there will be a cost to pay. If you lose that second opportunity and are hoping for a third, clearly you have not been reading this post to realize that NEVER happens!!

At the end of it all, I want to have grabbed the opportunities that came my way.

Choose the ones right for you. Yes, I would want to have grabbed all the opportunities that are right for me that came my way. To have just done it. Not aiming for perfection but persistence and in due time, excellence would be my brand.
